Health insurance
We are currently accepting HMSA PPO, HMAA, HMA, UHA, HMSA Quest and Aloha Quest health insurance. If your health insurance is not listed we will file a claim on your behalf with your insurance company who may provide some reimbursement for your visit fee. If you have concerns about the reimbursement policies of your insurance company please contact them prior to your visit.
general excise tax
Hawaii is one of the few states in the nation which charges patients general excise tax for medical services. The amount of the tax is based upon the amount of your health insurance company's compensation plan and is collected at each visit in addition to the co-pay.
MEDICARE
We care about our senior citizens. However the current reimbursement schedule established by Medicare for primary care providers is financially untenable. We do provide a 30% discount to our seniors for their primary care. It is also important to note that although we do not participate with Medicare directly, in most cases your labs, medications, radiological imaging, hospital care and referrals to most specialties will still be reimbursed by Medicare. Please call our office for more information.
Some insurance plans prohibit specialist referrals from any physician other than the primary care doctor assigned to them. This effectively prohibits you from seeing any physician outside of the plan's network. Although I can address your acute issues, referrals to appropriate specialists may be difficult. Please contact your insurance company if you are unclear as to your insurance plan's policy with regards to non-participating physicians and referrals within your network.
Please note: If you have extenuating circumstances I am willing to discuss my fees to meet your needs.
